The example runs nicely on my PC running Windows 98. Did you install
cygwin recently? I've had several people complaining about a nasty bug
in cygwin (cygwin 1.3.1). The same people reported that everything
worked fine with earlier (1.1.8) and later (1.3.2) versions.
