[Gmsh] reloading surface numbers

Hello,

I am an undergraduate student in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and am
currently working with the Department of Energy.

I have the following problem with gmsh. I activated the "Surface numbers"
option, in order to make Physical Entities using those number assignments.
Unfortunately, everytime I reload the program a new set of surface numbers
is assigned to surfaces on the mesh, thereby making my original
physical-entities-assignments obsolete. Is there anyway to have the
surface-number-tags stay constant?
