[Gmsh] sphere created in Salome produces empty mesh

That solved the problem.

Can I also uncheck those options when I run gmsh from the command line without 
GUI? How?

Hi Jan,

your sphere is so small that it has been automatically removed...

Go to Tools->Options->Geometry->General and uncheck "Remove small edeges in OCC 
models" and "Remove small faces in..."
