[Gmsh] problems running gmsh installed from source

Dear GMSH developer, after installing gmsh from the svn version today, when running
it over the network, i.e. the executable is on a machine with

[oswald at merlinl01 gmsh]$ uname -a
Linux merlinl01 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jan 23 17:20:44 CST 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

the display is on a mac pro, I get the following error message:

[oswald at merlinl01 ~]$ ./extlib/gmsh/svn/gcc/4.6.2/bin/gmsh
Insufficient GL support
Segmentation fault

gmsh shows up briefly and then quits,

any suggestions ?
