[Gmsh] WG: AW: can't generate 3d mesh

Hi,

I also see the crash for the stp file you have attached here, but not for the stp file in your original post, which is much smaller BTW (see wing_small.stp in the attachment).
No idea why gmsh crashes for the second stp file – I forward your question to the gmsh list where the real experts are.

Matthias

Dear Dr. Zenker,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I took exactly the same settings you sent me, and it worked.
Then I saved the mesh (File-> Save Mesh).
But now, whenever I try to open the same .stl file again (wind.stl), my Gmsh gets crashed on the very beginning. Why is that so?
I am attaching the .stl file one more time, and the crash screen photo.

Thank you for the reply.

Kind regards,
Djordje Spasic

Subject: AW: [Gmsh] can't generate 3d mesh

Hi,

I have been able to get the step file meshed with the following settings in the GUI (Tools->Options->Mesh->General):
2D algorithm: Automatic
3D algorithm: Delaunay
2D recombination algorithm: Standard
Element size factor: 1.00
Min/max element size: 50 1000

The element size is important since your geometry seems to be in mm, so the meshing takes forever with much smaller values.

HTH,

Matthias

Dear Mr. Geuzaine and Remacle,

First I would like to congratulate you one the wonderful tool you have developed. I have just found out about Gmsh few days ago and have been experimenting (version 2.8.5) with mesh generation for some of my models in last couple of days.

I have one issue though - I can not generate 3d mesh on my wing model. Check the attached files (the wing was created in Rhino5, that's the .3dm file.) I am also sending you exporte .igs and .stp versions of the original .3dm file.

Generating 2d meshes works great. But for some reason 3d one can't be generated.

Would you be so kind to take check the files and tell me where the problem is please?

Thank you.

Kind regards,
Djordje Spasic
