<p>If you just create a group of lines hoping it will be meshed, thats not how gmsh would work. Since a line is a 1D element, which actually meshes in 1D. </p>

</p>
<p>In order for gmsh to understand that it needs to mesh a 2D or 3D domain, you have to specify it as a "surface = 2D" and "volume = 3D".</p>
