Did you also get a message like "Xlib: extension GLX missing on display. 
Insufficient GL support" on your terminal? If you did, that means that 
OpenGL is not correctly installed on your machine. If not, could you 
send a stack trace in a debugger? (gdb gmsh; run; <crash>; backtrace)
