[Gmsh] Background mesh problems in gmsh

Christophe or Jean-Francois,

I was attempting to use the attached image as a background mesh in GMSH -
I would like to be able to generate a mesh matching the structure seen in
this shot, but I have been unable to get gmsh to fit the shape - it seems
to still mesh over the top of the image with no regard to the image
itself. I have used the "apply as background mesh" command from the
toolbar, but this hasn't been working for me.

Could either of you provide any advice as to how to get gmsh to mesh this
disordered structure from this image?

Thanks in advance,
-Bob Webbink
