Gmsh2 now uses the version 2 ASCII file format as standard, as it is documentation in the GMSH manual, chapter 9.1.2 .
You can save to the old format, by creating the mesh in the GUI, and from the menu->save as; format "Gmsh mesh"; Version 1.0 ->Ok.
nice greetings,
 bernhard

Chris,

I was wondering. Do you have a description of what changed in the mesh
format form the last release to 2.0?
