[Gmsh] Import of step files

I have a geometry defined in a .stp file (attached). The file is
correctly imported by Gmsh (I can visualize the geometry). In order to
be able to operate on the geometry, I generate a .geo file with the
command <Merge "c:/PATH/model.stp";>.
When I read this file though, it
seems I cannot do any operation; if I try for example to delete a
surface, everything on the screen disappears. I have then to reload the
.geo file, in which I find the "delete surface" command (but in the
model the surface is still there!!).
I have tried also starting from
the file in iges format, with the same results.
Where is the problem?
Thank you very much for your attention.
