[Gmsh] ugh, clip plane cuts vectors, is there a way out

Vladimir - Starting with tomorrow's nightly build you will be able to 
choose to keep "whole elements" when clipping meshes or post-processing 
datasets (in Tools->Clipping). Let us know if this solves your problem.
