[Gmsh] mesh with gmsh

I have some quastions for gmsh:

1. How can i set the first length of node when i mesh a line. In
transfinite doesnt give any choice.

2. How can i create boundary layers with qads or hex's? (for example near
wall which require orthogonal mesh lines).

By now these equaetions...:)
