[Gmsh] Grouping vertically-alighed nodes in Extrude command

Hello all,

I am an ocean modeller trying to use gmsh to generate a mesh for a finite
element ocean model.
I have been vertically extruding my horizontal mesh to create 3D mesh,
using "Extrude" function in gmsh.
The numerical algorithm used in the model requires that each group of
vertically-aligned nodes developed by the extrude lie in the same
partition.  I would like to find out if it is possible to assign a unique
ID to each of these groups that can then be used by the domain
decomposition to ensure whole groups lie entirely within each partition -
i.e. a strictly horizontal decomposition.

Have anyone had this problem before?
Also any suggestions or thoughts are welcome.
