[Gmsh] how to prevent gmsh from meshing not compound surfaces

Hi

My mesh definition includes topography, which is inputted into geo file as
a number of Ruled Surfaces that are combined into a Compound Surface.
When I do 2d mesh, gmsh first meshes all the small ruled surfaces and their
boundaries and then meses the compound surface.
It seems as a waste of computational time as the Ruled Surfaces are not
needed to be meshed. How to tell gmsh not to mesh them?
