Not for the currently distributed version. You can download the doc for
next version (beware that some important changes exist between versions
0.6 and next one, 0.7) at

'triangle' is a good 2d mesh generator.

No. But it should quite be simple to transfer from any mesh format to
the msh format, since the msh format is very basic (a list of nodes with
their coords, and a list of elements, each with one region number and
the node numbers).

Yes : quads in 2D ; tets, hex, prisms in 3D.

We considered this issue when we started the UI, and chose Motif for the
stability (on workstations...). And lesstif is really getting better and
better.
