Thanks. I was sure there was a trick, but couldn't figure it out. I
played with a number of things (and still am trying to decipher what
your little script actually does,

Hello.  Actually apart from the first line, which loads your mesh, the
script was written by Gmsh as I did the actions.

1. Geometry/Elementary/Add/New/Volume,  pick a surface, then e to end
and q to finish.

2. Geometry/Physical/Volume, pick the volume.
