[Gmsh] .msh file format $Nodes section question

I figured this has to do with .msh version 3:
$ MeshFormat
3 0 8
is there any documentation About That? It seems to be one the commandline
default, even though experimental Stated in the gui save menu. but could
not find documented anywhere this ...
