[Gmsh] equivalent to Field in geo file when using gmshpy

Dear Christophe
This is still rather difficult to understand!
In my geo file the mesh size control happened via
Field[1]=MathEval;
Field[1].F="KLC*(1-0.8*Exp(-16*((x*x+y*y+z*z-RI2))))*Sqrt(x*x+y*y+z*z)";
Background Field=1;
where KLC and RI2 are being replaced by floating point numbers via sed.
I still battle to understand how these three lines would be translated!
